If they had armoured mobility, they might not have been in that situation. But it really revolves around air power, and the Allies had an abundance of it.

Mostly it was the infantry that escaped Falaise.... infantry, and vehicle crews who abandoned their rides and walked out. Vehicles in that hell were just targets.

I'd have to check but I think that is true for the last phase, before that being able to move reasonably fast with protection against splinters and HMG / light cannon fire might be the edge you need....
